Uruguayan Thomas Silva will race in the World Tour with the XDS Astana team starting next season: he has signed a two-year contract. The 23-year-old South American has established himself as a strong one-day rider, performing confidently on hilly terrain and possessing a powerful sprint. Thomas Silva is the current Uruguayan national champion. In the 2025 season, he won the King of the Mountains classification at the Vuelta a Andalucía, a stage at the Tour of Qinghai Lake, where he also finished second in the general classification, and a stage at the Grande Prémio Internacional Beiras e Serra da Estrela. Silva also finished fourth at the Gran Premio Miguel Indurain and GP du Morbihan.
"I am very happy and excited about the opportunity to take a big step in the World Tour with a historic and prestigious team like XDS Astana Team. I can't wait to join the team, I can't wait for the new season, and my motivation is at its highest level! There is a lot of work to be done, but I am ready to give my all to continue improving as a professional rider," Thomas Silva stated.
"In recent years, Thomas Silva has grown significantly, and his progress at the pro-continental level has been evident, so his move to the World Tour was only a matter of time. I am glad that we have reached an agreement with the management of Caja Rural - Seguros RGA and that we have managed to complete this transition before the 2026 season. I believe that in our team, Thomas will have everything he needs to continue the positive momentum he has built in the last two seasons," said Alexandr Vinokurov, General Manager of XDS Astana Team.
