Serbia has given him the latest satisfaction of an exhilarating season, and now Lorenzo Cataldo is waiting for a call from a professional team.
"I've hoped for this since I was a kid," explains the Tuscan rider from Gragnano Sport Club. "2025 has been my best year, and the Serbia Tour (with professionals, ed.) was my first victory in a stage race. I'm not getting my hopes up, cycling today moves fast and young riders even more so. I'm a 1999 class rider, an experienced amateur who still has a lot to offer this sport. So far, no one has contacted me. We'll see."
Seven victories, five of which came in fifty days and all at 2.2 class races, meaning events open to professionals. Two stages at the Bulgaria Tour, one stage in China at the Poyang Lake Tour, two stages and the overall classification at the recent Serbia Tour - Cataldo has shown he can aspire to something greater. The Prato rider deserves a chance, a sprinter capable of outpacing top rivals in crowded finishes. The facts speak of an extraordinary consistency at high levels, with the Tuscan devouring roads with commitment and determination.
"Final sprints are my trademark. I define myself as a pure sprinter capable of accelerating even when the group speeds up. I would love to prove my worth in the top category, perhaps in a Professional team. Let's hope someone notices me and my victory at the Serbia Tour."
Introduced to cycling by his grandfather Marco, an ex-amateur, Lorenzo Cataldo is coached by Mirko Musetti. He started at 7 with Borgonuovo Milior, then wearing jerseys of Velo Club Seano One, Unicacash Due C, Cipriani&Gestri, Malmantile, Hato Green, Casillo Petroli, Petroli Firenze Hopplà, and Vini Monzon Savini Die OMZ. His relationship with Gragnano Sporting Club, led by passionate Carlo Palandri and managed by Alberto Conti, is special.
"It's like being in a family. I'm really comfortable here, Palandri is a gentleman, just like all the other managers. I arrived at Gragnano in 2022 and stayed in 2023, and after my experience with Vini Monzon (2024), this year I returned to Palandri's team, whom I thank from the bottom of my heart".
