A professional since 2021, Laurenz Rex started cycling at the age of 8 and has since become one of the most promising riders in the peloton for the classics. In the last three seasons, the twenty-five-year-old Belgian has collected a series of notable results in one-day races, including a victory at Le Samyn and top-ten finishes at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Classic Brugge-De Panne, Gent-Wevelgem, and Paris-Roubaix, twice.
He has demonstrated his qualities on numerous occasions and is now preparing to wear the Soudal Quick Step jersey, with which he has signed a three-year contract. "I'm happy that everything has worked out and I will race for this team, which I have always admired since I was very young. I remember watching Tom Boonen attack on the Taaienberg: it's one of the most beautiful memories I have from childhood. He was someone I admired, and I'm happy to be able to race in the same team where he raced and made history".
And further: "I know some of the guys on the team and everyone here has welcomed me with great enthusiasm, making me feel at home right away. It's a dream come true to be here and I hope to make important steps in my career with the Wolfpack. I want to help the team whenever they need me, become a better rider and reach my highest level, which I hope will one day bring me close to victory at Paris-Roubaix", he explained at the team's first off-season meeting.
"We are pleased to have Laurenz on the team. He is a strong and ambitious rider who has already shown great maturity and experience despite his young age. We know what he can do when attacking and pursuing his results, and we are confident that he will bring concrete added value, both in the Classics and as an integral part of our stage race team," said Jurgen Foré, CEO of Soudal Quick-Step.
