We know that UAE has already totaled the absolute record of victories in a year for a cycling team. But as successes continue to increase almost daily, and with Del Toro's win at Giro del Veneto, we are now at 95, it's natural to wonder if the Emirates powerhouse can reach 100 victories.
We've done the math and, in short, there are still 7 opportunities to obtain the 5 victories needed to reach the incredible triple-digit mark. At the Tour of Guangxi, which we are currently covering with our correspondent Federico Guido, there are still 4 stages: 2 for fast wheels (Ivo Oliveira didn't seem brilliant in the first two days of the race, but never say never) then Saturday's uphill finish (where Narvaez and Christen are two excellent candidates) and the final Nanning circuit which promises to be a battle between sprinters and attackers. Four possibilities, where UAE won't always be the favorite, which become five if we consider a potential GC victory.
After the end of Guangxi, which will tell us whether the arithmetic possibility of reaching 100 remains or not, the season-concluding Sunday will present the sixth and seventh chances: Veneto Classic, where the current lineup includes Covi-Morgado-Sivakov-Torres-Wellens-F.Vermeersch; and Chrono des Nations, to which Herregodts, Bjerg and especially Vine are expected to participate.
The team has decided not to participate in the newly created Tour of Holland, a competition largely dedicated to sprints.
