Lidl-Trek is pleased to announce that German sprinter Max Walscheid has signed a three-year contract with the team. The agreement will see the 32-year-old wear the red-blue-yellow jersey of Lidl-Trek until 2028.
Walscheid enters his tenth WorldTour season, during which he has collected 13 professional victories in China, Malaysia, and Europe. Standing 1.99 meters tall, the German sprinter brings an imposing physical presence to Lidl-Trek. Renowned for his power and speed, he will be a valuable resource in both sprints and cobblestone classics.
Beyond cycling, Walscheid has also continued his medical studies, using the COVID-induced racing pause to resume online lessons. While not ruling out a medical career in his future, he currently focuses on competition and helping Lidl-Trek achieve success at the highest levels.
“In the last two years, I've been extremely happy with Team Jayco-AlUla” said Max Walscheid. "I was fortunate to meet and work with fantastic people and, of course, race successfully. When I was offered the opportunity to race for Lidl-Trek, one of the best WorldTeams overall, I didn't hesitate for a second. Lidl-Trek is perfectly equipped for classics and sprints: I'm ready to help Mads Pedersen and lead Jonathan Milan, but also to seek my own opportunities when they arise. And I'm extremely motivated to give my all in the Grand Tours, because we'll have many chances for success.
"I've seen the scientific approach of the team, both regarding sprint train development, excellent equipment, and the staff behind the team. This uncompromising attitude perfectly matches my desire to optimize all aspects of my performance and brings out the best in everyone. I'm ready to contribute to Lidl-Trek's winning history!".
“Max has a strong engine and is an experienced rider who can make a difference in many situations” added Luca Guercilena, General Manager of Lidl-Trek. "He brings power and race intelligence, whether inserting himself in the sprint train, contributing to cobblestone classics, or reading a race in frantic finales. Max is very motivated to help our leaders succeed, and he also knows how to win on his own when the opportunity arises. We are very happy to welcome him to the team".
