Davide Donati tried to counter Noah Hobbs' powerful sprint but, at the end of the first stage of the Tour De L'Avenir, the British rider crossed the finish line in Saint Galmier with his arms raised to celebrate the victory in the first stage of the Tour de l'Avenir. The Bergamo rider in the blue jersey finished second, and Cesar Macias, a 2021 class Mexican, finished third. In the general classification, Seixas still occupies the first position ahead of Finn and Nordhagen, who moved up two positions today.
After many attacks and failed breakaway attempts, it was the Dutch rider Stef Koning who found the courage and the right moment to surprise the group, breaking away alone at the head of the race after about eighty kilometers from the start in Aoste. The 21-year-old, who races for the Continental Parkhotel Valkenburg this season, had a maximum advantage of over 2 minutes on the chasing group and was long the virtual leader of the race.
The group came very close to the breakaway rider, and approaching the Col des Brosses climb, the Mexican José Juan Prieto launched himself in pursuit of Koning, catching him and pedaling in tandem with him for a few kilometers before the peloton regrouped under the impulse of Italy (Borgo and Guarldi very active) and Norway.
Despite the sustained pace, the French Dutch tried again. The forcing by Seixas' teammates selected the group but did not surprise Borgo, Mattio, and the other Azzurri, who promptly responded.
Tomorrow, the third day of the Tour de l'Avenir 2025, the caravan will go from Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise to Vitry-en-Charollais, covering 136 kilometers.
