On the challenging roads of the tenth stage of the Tour de France, Vingegaard and Pogacar reached the top of Mont-Dore together, after the Dane managed to resist an attack by the Slovenian on the final climb. Seeing that he would not be able to drop his rival, Pogacar did not insist, and the two finished the race wheel to wheel, even shaking hands after the finish line. Visma | Lease a Bike was unable to put the world champion in difficulty, even after the numerous attacks by Jorgenson, but still secured a beautiful stage victory with Simon Yates.
"It was an incredible day for us. Winning the stage was nice for me too. I'm happy with my legs, with how I felt, so yes, I think we can say it was a good day for all of us."
Vingegaard remained in fourth place in the general classification, 1'17" behind Pogacar and 1:46 behind the new yellow jersey Ben Healy (Ef Education-EasyPost).
"We did not attack to make him lose the yellow jersey: we did it to try to put pressure on him. And obviously, if he had remained in yellow, he would have had to do the podium ceremony every day, which I think would have taken some energy away from him. But we're not thinking about that. We just followed our plan, which was to put pressure on him."
Pogacar attacked and in the group of the best, only Vingegaard managed to follow him. Today will be a rest day, and to see the next challenge between the big names, we'll have to wait until Thursday, when the group arrives in Hautacam.
"I am satisfied with what I did yesterday, because I managed to follow all of his attacks, which I was unable to do at the Dauphiné, so obviously I think this shows that I now have a better level compared to the Dauphiné."
Vingegaard appeared calm after the race and regarding Pogacar's attacks, the Dane admitted the difficulty in following him. "Following Tadej is very difficult because he has a very strong push. How will I understand if I can make a difference later? Stay tuned if you want to know."
