After the incident that forced Jasper Philipsen to abandon the Tour de France, due to the impact with Bryan Coquard, the tension between the two riders seems to have dissolved. In fact, Coquard spoke with the unfortunate Philipsen after his bad fall. "Jasper told me it wasn't my fault - Said Coquard - And this relieves me a lot".
Jasper Philipsen's Tour de France was truly short, as during the third stage, the Belgian who had won the first stage and was racing to win the green jersey, fell heavily to the ground after being hit by the Frenchman. "Philipsen is now doing well after surgery - continued Bryan Coquard - How is it possible that such an innocent intermediate sprint turns into such a fight for every position?".
The main responsible for what happened in the third stage is Bryan Coquard. The French Cofidis rider was able to continue his race, but psychologically he was not well and for this reason he wanted to talk to Philipsen after publicly apologizing. "It was not my intention to cause an accident, I did not want to take risks. It was not intentional, but I want to apologize to Philipsen and Alpecin. I am not a bad person". These are the words publicly said by Coquard, who was also sanctioned by the jury.
The verdict for Philipsen was merciless, with a fracture of the clavicle and a rib, and he underwent surgery at the hospital in Herentals and will soon be able to begin rehabilitation.
"I'm fine. Physically, I'm still sore from that incident. When I looked at the speedometer, it was showing 62-64 km/h. So it hurt me, but I'm really doing better. I didn't break anything. Mentally I'm doing quite well now. I even managed to talk to many people, including Jasper Philipsen".
The Flemish and the Frenchman have clarified things and there are no more shadows over the incident. Many riders had been harsh towards Coquard, also writing unpleasant public messages. Now, however, everything seems truly resolved. "We exchanged some messages on Tuesday evening. I wished him a speedy recovery and told him I was sorry about the situation. Jasper told me it wasn't my fault and that it was just a racing incident. And that it was just bad luck. He told me to enjoy the rest of the Tour to the fullest and wished me the best. So now I'll try to enjoy the race to the fullest".
