Dear cycling friends, esteemed professionals, regional and local institutional representatives, precious sponsors, and members of the press, as the General Director of the Matteotti Trophy, with a life dedicated to competitive and organizational cycling, I find myself addressing you with words laden with profound bitterness and disappointment.
The Matteotti Trophy is not just a cycling race; it is a piece of our sport's history, a symbol of tradition and passion that for 77 editions has belonged to the cultural and sporting heritage of our community. An event that, with the fundamental support of President Daniele Sebastiani, I have the honor and burden of carrying forward, bringing to bear all my experience and unconditional love for this sport.
Yet, despite the titanic commitment I pour in every year to overcome obstacles of every kind - from bureaucratic challenges to finding economic resources in an increasingly complex context - I must unfortunately acknowledge that we have reached a critical point.
My disappointment is profound. Our aspiration, and my personal commitment, has always been to elevate the Matteotti, to ensure its continuity and open it to new perspectives, among which, fundamental and non-negotiable, is the introduction of a women's race. Equality and inclusion are not slogans, but pillars on which to build the future of cycling, and not being able to realize this step deeply saddens me.
We find ourselves facing a complex landscape, where the balance between sponsors, institutions, and the endless organizational requirements seems to become more precarious each year. Despite my spirit and determination, it is unthinkable to sustain such a heavy burden alone. The Matteotti Trophy belongs to everyone, and to continue to live and grow, it needs the concrete and tangible support of all involved parties.
I am a romantic of cycling, and as such I need guarantees, stability, a clear horizon to continue dreaming and working for an event that deserves maximum splendor. We cannot allow such a glorious tradition to fade due to a lack of common vision and structural support.
This communication is not a farewell, but a cry of alarm, a heartfelt appeal to reflect on the intrinsic value of this event and the necessity of a joint commitment to ensure it a future worthy of its history.
I trust in your sensitivity and spirit of collaboration to find solutions together.
