Sergio Motti, a 66-year-old from Piacenza, lost his life on Saturday afternoon after being hit by a car while cycling on Via Emilia Pavese between San Nicolò and Rottofreno, about ten kilometers from the provincial capital. The accident's dynamics are still under investigation, but according to initial reconstructions, the man was run over and thrown from his bicycle by a car traveling in the same direction, which after the impact ended up in the fields.
An emergency medical vehicle, ambulance, and a helicopter from Parma arrived at the scene, but attempts to resuscitate the cyclist were unsuccessful.
Motti was one of the technical staff of Pedale Castellano, a historic cycling society in the Piacenza area that works with Youth and Beginner categories.
"Sergio was coaching the Beginner category, he was a true enthusiast, and very respectful in teaching the young riders. Today we will not participate in any races, neither with the youth nor the beginners, as a sign of mourning," said Stefano Magnani, president of Pedale Castellano, to colleagues from La Libertà who broke the sad news.
