It is a Trofeo Città di Brescia with big names that will be raced on Tuesday, July 1st on the inner ring road circuit of Brescia, starting and finishing at Colle Cidneo under the Mirabella Tower. Among the 177 registered riders are several clubs representing numerous Countries, specifically: Great Britain, United Arab Emirates, Austria, Australia, Mexico, Hungary, Germany, Slovenia, France, Switzerland. Not counting foreign riders in Italian teams.
This was announced at Palazzo Loggia during the usual meeting with authorities and press by Fermo and Luca Fiori, who are the top representatives of Gs Città di Brescia. "We thank the friends who have always been by our side - they stated in unison -. Without their decisive support, it would not be possible to organize this great international event. We approached this race timidly thanks to the mediation and availability of Prof. Bruno Boni and Tino Del Pietro. We received the baton from Sport Club Brescia and after several decades, we are still here. We are truly grateful to the municipal administration that hosts us once again at Palazzo Loggia, and we are ready to give the people of Brescia another page of this extraordinary event that all Brescians await and love".
Fermo and Luca Fiori continue to claim they have little to do with cycling, "forgetting" that for some seasons they have also been organizing the cycling day in Calvagese della Riviera, where on August 31st juniors and beginners will race in the Albarosa-Comune-Riccardo Stanga Trophy. And that for many years they have sponsored Brescia-Mura and Calvagese-Mura.
Returning to the race, we must point out that at the start will be the best expression of Italian youth cycling, led by Francesco Lamon, Olympic champion with the pursuit quartet in Paris 2020, for several years a rider for the Brescia-Cremona team dear to Gabriele Scalmana and Bruno Bindoni. What is anticipated on July 1st is certainly a duel between Italy and the Rest of the World, with the hope that this time the Azzurri will prevail. It has been since 2017, when Nikolai Shumov (Delio Gallina) won, that a foreigner has not won in this prestigious event, where Brescians have often made their voices heard.
However, it has been since 2016 that the home advantage, borrowing a football phrase, has not been respected. In 2016, still with the Delio Gallina jersey, Alessandro Bresciani celebrated the most important success of his career, nephew of Enrico Zaina, who in 1996 was second in the Giro d'Italia of the Greats.
The route is naturally the tried and tested one, consisting of 21 laps of the 5.800-kilometer circuit to complete the 121.800 kilometers scheduled. Start at 8:15 PM, finish around 11 PM, to celebrate the brightest star of the night. A special prize from the Aido of Brescia will be awarded to this star.
Attending the presentation were Brescia's sports councilor Alessandro Cantoni, Stefano Pedrinazzi (regional Fci president), Paolo Zanesi (provincial Fci president), Giuseppina Pedracini (Brescia local police), Maria Teresa Comini (mayor of Calvagese della Riviera), former professional Giuseppe Martinelli, along with the winners of the night race in 1964, 1981, 1982 Ferruccio Manza and Domenico Perani and Marco Tabai.
