While the seventy-seventh edition of the Critérium du Dauphiné is ongoing, which in the first stages has given fans the victories of Pogacar, Milan, Romeo and Evenepoel, in France the future of the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team is also making headlines.
As is known, AG2R-La Mondiale, a leader in the insurance market and a long-time partner of the team, will terminate the sponsorship agreement at the end of 2025. The team managers are therefore looking for a company willing to invest alongside Decathlon.
In recent days, the French publication www.letelegramme.fr had written about a possible agreement between the team and L'Oréal, but the cosmetics company representatives, contacted by l'Equipe, have denied this hypothesis.
What seems certain is that the team, supported by Decathlon, wants to aim for the top of the cycling world and to do so intends to strengthen itself in the next transfer market. Thus, the colleagues at l'Equipe open up a possible lead to follow: Olav Kooij, a 23-year-old Dutchman who won the last stage of the 2025 Giro d'Italia, could leave Visma Lease a Bike, with whom his contract is expiring, and wear the Decathlon jersey next year. Obviously, if the Orange sprinter were to choose to join the French team, they would need to move in the market to guarantee Kooij a competitive lead-out train.
In short, if these are the premises, the situation will certainly be worth following.
