THE STORIES OF FIGIO. THE 50 (AND MORE) GIRO D'ITALIA OF GINO MORELLI

FIFTY TIMES GIRO D'ITALIA (and even more) In the pink caravan of the 108th Giro d'Italia, there are figures who have participated in the pink race in various roles for ten lustres and even more for some, with practically uninterrupted continuity. The names cited below are not the result of a strictly statistical investigation but, above all, mnemonic, of personal memory. Among others, we certainly remember Professor Enrico Fagnani, a well-known medical specialist in audiology, otorhinolaryngology, and neurosensory sciences at the Milan Polyclinic, head of the Radio Information service, at his fifty-first presence at the Giro, in the Rai TV commentary position, often called upon for various reasons due to his versatility, including in meteorology. Another over-fifty-year veteran is Vito Mulazzani, a top-tier motorcyclist, the "régulateur" and guide par excellence for the centaurs of the pink race and other races who, now dismounted from the motorcycle, has been touring with the Giro for a couple of years in advertising promotion functions. Names of known people while GINO MORELLI, from the RO.FRA team of barriers and stages, originally Pazzaglini, known throughout the national cycling environment as operating in the sector of tribune and barrier setups for cycling races - and not only - for more than fifty years, has entered the "50 Giro d'Italia behind" category, as can be learned from the attached link published by this site in 2017. And Gino Morelli, a citizen of Mondaino, a characteristic center on the hills behind Rimini, bordering the Marche region. And, speaking of Marche, to make Gino Morelli vigorously uneasy, just call him a "Marchigiano". A definition he has always rejected and repelled, with fervent oratorical zeal, fully claiming his "Romagnolity". He accepts without batting an eye the typical Romagna definition of "invornito", an equivalent synonym also of "patacca". An unrepentant bachelor, in his spare time from collaborating with Ro.Fra, he takes care of his agricultural land. His physical build, always slender and lanky, with his mustache, brings to mind the character of "Tiramolla" from children's comics of the past. He's a bit of a grumbler (euphemism) but in his specific work in cycling, he puts a unique ability, strength, and experience, both in driving trucks and in loading and unloading barriers and stands. A grumbler but generous and available even when, several decades ago, advertising billboards were in heavy masonite with wooden framing and were displayed, in addition to being fixed to barriers, on private balconies and/or similar in the arrival area to be included in television shots, after negotiations and various promises, he was available - grumbling, obviously - to extra-barrier billboard exposure and fixing work. In his own way, a character, characterized by great humanity and availability, known and well-liked by his work colleagues and cycling race organizers throughout Italy, also working on circuits, especially post-Giro, organized by Milanese promoter Nino Recalcati, his friend, who also called him "Marchigiano". And Gino Morelli always replied with grit to the nickname, as a true "Romagnolo Blood" as he is.
