On Thursday in Naples, towards the end of an already challenging stage, two men stepped onto the road directly in front of Enzo Paleni and Taco Van der Hoorn, who were spending their last energies trying to avoid being caught by sprinters ready to compete for victory.
The two were brandishing what appeared to be a pipe, white and red tape, and possibly a small banner: they probably wanted to protest, though they chose the worst possible method - protests are always made in front of cameras if one wants to be seen - but most importantly, they risked causing a disaster.
As reported by Gazzettino Vesuviano, one of the protesters was stopped by the Digos and reported for personal injury and resistance to a public official. It involves a 67-year-old Neapolitan with a criminal record. A full-blown aggression that could have seriously endangered the safety of the riders.
The man is part of a pro-Palestinian movement, and the invasion was motivated by the presence of Israel Premier Tech in the race.
