A trip back in time for Francesco Moser, next September 20th: he will be present at the awards ceremony of the Milan - Rapallo. This year, the Tigullio classic, to celebrate its sixtieth edition in the best possible way, becomes international and announces a list of registered riders with a high technical level.
Moser's presence at the finish line is not coincidental, as he won the prestigious race in 1972, just a few months before turning professional with the Filotex team of Waldemaro Bartolozzi. This was the beginning of a brilliant career that lasted three decades. More than fifty years have passed since then, but the memory of the victory with the "Mobiexport" jersey is still vivid.
"On the Scoffera Pass, five of us broke away - Moser recalls - the group was not far behind, we all collaborated to make the breakaway successful, in the flat section leading to Chiavari, to avoid being caught. As soon as the Grazie climb started, I attacked and arrived alone at the Rapallo finish line".
Behind him, just a few seconds back, were Gianbattista Baronchelli and Serge Parsani. Who knows if on September 20th they might manage to recreate that unforgettable podium. During a meeting in Trento with Roberto Portunato, the organizational director of Velo Val Fontanabuona and patron of the Milan - Rapallo, Moser confirmed his attendance. Parsani will be there with the Professional Solution Tech Vini Fantini team, and all that remains is to invite Baronchelli. The day represents a good opportunity to remember Giulio Ricciardi, who passed away last November. Moser, Baronchelli, and Parsani were great friends of Ricciardi and often raced together in the famous "gentleman" pair races.
