The road from his hometown Solighetto to Cordignano by bicycle is only about thirty kilometers, and Alessandro Borgo has undoubtedly ridden it countless times during training. However, the 2005 Treviso native has gone far beyond his local roads in the first part of his young career, making his debut among World Tour professionals with Bahrain, despite still being part of the Development team.
On Monday, April 21st, during the 86th edition of the Giro del Belvedere, Borgo will return to his training routes to try and definitively establish himself and bring the Easter Monday Classic title back to Italy and the Treviso province, something that hasn't happened since Samuele Battistella's victory in 2019.
Borgo's history with the Giro del Belvedere began in 2024, when in his first year in the U23 category he finished tenth at the Villa di Cordignano finish line. "Overall, I'd say it was a good result, especially considering I made a mistake before the last turn. I got boxed in and had to chase throughout the sprint, losing a great opportunity. It's still an experience that helped me improve and will be useful this year, because I'm unequivocally aiming for the best possible result."
An experience that is growing exponentially at the start of 2025, thanks to time spent training and racing with the Bahrain Victorious World Tour team, despite the crash at the Trofeo Piva that caused him some problems in recent weeks.
"At the start of this season, I've done a lot of activities with the World Tour team" – Borgo commented – "and I'm learning in every aspect. Mohoric impressed me with his meticulousness and the many tips he gave me: in a way, I can be inspired by him, who is a great classics rider and won a Milan-Sanremo. After the Piva crash, I went through a few difficult days but still managed to race in San Vendemiano, and now my focus is entirely on the Belvedere."
For the 2005 rider, it will once again be a special emotion: "Although I didn't grow up as a true cycling enthusiast but came to it later, I've always heard about the Giro del Belvedere. Since I started racing, I've understood firsthand why it has this legendary aura: it's a race with a great tradition, massive crowds on the roads, and an extremely high level of participation. We're preparing for it with the team and have marked the date in red on the calendar."
To aim for success, the new Bahrain Victorious Devo Team (formerly CTF Victorious) will rely on two other familiar faces of the Easter Monday Classic, Bryan Olivo and Marco Andreaus, along with Leonardo Consolidani and Kasper Borremans. Over the 168 km with start and finish in Villa di Cordignano, the competition will be fierce, with the defending champions from UAE Emirates Gen Z and the newcomers from Red Bull - Bora, led by Junior World Champion Lorenzo Finn, at the forefront.
On Monday evening, April 21st, Raisport will broadcast an extensive summary of the Giro del Belvedere, starting at 7:45 PM, with commentary by Silvano Ploner.
