These days, news and images of suffering are coming from the Indian Ocean, particularly from Reunion Island, a French overseas department located approximately 200 kilometers from Mauritius. The tropical cyclone Garance hit the island with its enormous destructive force: wind gusts up to 230 km/h, floods, and landslides swept away roads and houses, causing several fatalities.
Among the families most affected by the emergency is that of Michel Bénard, organizer of the Tour de Reunion and official voice of numerous competitions held on the island and in Mauritius, who has lost his home and is now facing serious difficulties.
To help Michel, the Velo Club Saint-Denis has launched an online fundraising campaign and invited social media users to participate. The Regional Cycling Committee of Réunion and the Cycling Federation of Mauritius have amplified the call, and many enthusiasts have also left messages of support for Michel and his loved ones.
The great cycling family once again demonstrates its readiness to help.
