HAPPY HOLIDAYS. ALESSIA VIGILIA: «MY CHRISTMAS IN POMPEI AND TRAINING IN THE AMALFI COAST»

In recent times, Alessia Vigilia has been working intensively in Spain with her FDJ Suez teammates to prepare for the 2025 season. After concluding the training camp, she headed to Bolzano, where she resides, but within a few days, she set off again.

Alessia, it seems like a period of continuous travel.
"Yes. Until Thursday, I was in Altea with the team, where we trained and did tests, also cycling at the Valencia Velodrome. I returned home but then left for Pompei. My father's family is originally from here, and we came to spend the holidays with aunts and cousins. We'll be together with dinners, lunches, tombola, and various games. Not forgetting the bike: from here, it's easy to reach the Amalfi Coast, and training in a much milder climate compared to what I would find in Bolzano helps prepare for the next season."

By the way, do you already know where you'll debut in 2025?
"My first race will be the UAE Tour. We're still defining the rest of the calendar." And looking back at the year about to end, what assessment do you make? "My first year in the World Tour has been constructive. I discovered a "new world", a different programming from what I was used to. I've learned a lot and improved, and for this, I must thank the team and especially teammates like Marta Cavalli and Grace Brown. Perhaps some of the personal goals I set for myself I didn't fully achieve, but being supportive of the team in important moments and feeling the confidence of my team is still very gratifying."

The best moment of 2024?
"The Vuelta España, and particularly the stage won by Évita Muzic at Laguna Negra, but there's another moment I remember with extreme pleasure: the Chrono des Nations. Why is that? After the Tour de Romandie, I had to stop due to appendicitis, and in the last part of the season, I didn't race anymore. But I couldn't miss the Nations Time Trial; I wanted to be present at Grace Brown's last race. It was important to me, and seeing Grace win as world champion on her "last dance" was particularly exciting."

What do you ask of the next year?
"Two goals. On the bike, continue my growth path and improve in time trials, and then there's the degree in Motor Sciences (she studies in Verona, ed.): I have two exams left, the goal is near."
