After Filippo Ganna, Maurizio Sarri and Jury Chechi, A ruota libera closes its first year of production by meeting Jonathan Milan, who in 2024 was a symbolic rider both on the road and on the track: winner of 11 races including 3 stages at the Giro d'Italia, where he confirmed himself in the cyclamen jersey as the best sprinter, Olympic bronze medalist in Paris in the Team Pursuit and world champion in Individual Pursuit on the track, setting a new world record. Interviewed by Riccardo Magrini at the Principe di Savoia hotel in Milan, Jonathan Milan is the latest protagonist of A ruota libera, the original format of Eurosport Italia dedicated to cycling.
A YEAR OF RECORDS AND SUCCESSES
"The beautiful season just concluded repays all the intense training. Enjoying myself makes me work with more lightness, but behind these victories there is a lot of commitment and even some small sacrifices. For the coming years, Milano-Sanremo, Gand-Wevelgem and Paris-Roubaix are there. The Flanders is also a dream, but it takes experience to win it and more generally a lot of luck in the Classics".
THE TRIUMPH ON THE TRACK
"Before the World Championships on the track, I got sick: my body was asking me to slow down, but I talked to the team and expressed my desire to go to Denmark to beat Pippo's (Ganna, ed) world record. Lidl-Trek gave me all possible support: I recovered, we trained and we achieved this great result".
ANOTHER OLYMPIC EMOTION "The memories of the Games are a bit vague because emotions take over and after crossing the finish line you remember little, even if those beautiful moments shared with teammates remain. As reigning Olympic champions, we prepared equally well for Paris 2024, but our opponents were simply stronger.
