A clear victory for European Champion Lorena Wibes in the 2025 Lucien Van Impe Grand Prix in Erpe Mere. The SD Worx Protime sprinter, the big favorite going into the race, secured the win by decisively dropping Norwegian Susanne Andersen from Uno-X Mobility and Shari Bossuyt, a Belgian from AG Insurance - Soudal Team, who finished second and third respectively. Just off the podium was young Francesca Pellegrini, while Sofia Bertizzolo, her teammate at UAE Team ADQ, celebrated her birthday with a seventh-place finish.
The first half of the race was characterized by a section where the main protagonists were Dutch rider Marit Raaijmakers (Human Powered Health) and French cyclist India Grangier (Team Coop – Repsol), who animated the race with a breakaway. After the attacking duo was caught, the battle continued with several attacks that gradually thinned out the peloton.
In the second half of the race, the athletes battled on a local circuit repeated six times. Attacks were again plentiful, with a particularly notable solo attack by 26-year-old Dutch rider Quinty Schoens (VolkerWessels Cycling Team), who remained in the lead for forty kilometers before being caught by the group, with SD Worx Protime, Movistar, Uno X, and Laboral at the front.
The final five kilometers, as expected, were a fierce fight for positions ahead of the final sprint.
Several notable mentions included Lonneke Uneken, who was second in Tuesday's Egmont Race, and Lily Williams.
