A very unusual "field invasion" occurred during the third stage of the 2025 Giro d'Italia. Shortly after the Intermediate Sprint, while Dries De Bondt (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team), Lorenzo Germani (Groupama - FDJ), Joshua Tarling (INEOS Grenadiers), Mark Donovan (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), Chris Hamilton (Team Picnic PostNL) and Alessandro Tonelli (Team Polti VisitMalta) were in the breakaway and the pink jersey group was over 2 minutes behind, several goats jumped from a field onto the road and cut across the path of some riders at the back of the peloton.
No athletes fell, but the scare was significant, particularly for Dion Smith (Intermarché - Wanty) who was "targeted" before the animal leaped into the field.
