Amore&Vita: arriva Daniel Holloway

Daniel Ray Holloway, 25enne texano e sprinter di razza con già 5 successi quest’anno (in America, nella foto uno di questi successi), tra cui una tappa al Sea Otter Classic, approda ad Amore & Vita - Argon 18 e debutterà domenica 2 Giugno nella prestigiosa classica di Philadelphia.
Holloway ha un palmarès di tutto rispetto nel quale spiccano anche due titoli nazionali americani su strada.
“Daniel è un rinforzo importantissimo per noi - spiega Cristian Fanini - con lui siamo andati a colmare quella piccola lacuna che avevamo fino ad oggi negli sprint. A dire il vero velocista lo abbiamo già, ed è l’estone Raim che però ha solo vent’anni e benché quest’anno abbia già conquistato una gara in Estonia, ha bisogno del tempo necessario per crescere ed essere veramente competitivo ad alti livelli. Holloway invece ha la maturità e l’esperienza giusta per ottenere subito risultati importantissimi”.
Nelle passate stagioni infatti Daniel Holloway ha corso con il team Garmin, poi il team Bissell ed infine nel 2012 in Inghilterra con il team Raleigh.
“Lo tenevo d’occhio già da diverso tempo – prosegue il team manager – soprattutto dopo averlo visto vincere l’anno scorso una splendida volata alla Vuelta Mexico dove eravamo presenti anche noi. Poi quest’anno ha iniziato la stagione con un team statunitense ottenendo subito diversi successi degni di nota come l’ultima tappa del Sea Otter Classic, un importante corsa a tappe del calendario americano. Quindi sono molto orgoglioso di aver trovato un accordo con lui e sono certo che di qui alla fine della stagione ci regalerà numerose soddisfazioni. Domenica Holloway sarà al via con il nostro team al Philadelphia Classic, una gara a cui tengo in modo particolare perché penso sia una delle corse più belle ed emozionanti al mondo. Peccato però che proprio quest’anno avrà un percorso diverso e l’arrivo non sarà più quello adatto agli sprinter nel centro di Philadelphia (difronte alla mitica scalinata del museo resa famosa dal film Rocky) ma si concluderà in cima al suggestivo Manyunk Wall, lo strappo al 20% posto poco fuori dalla città.
Punteremo pertanto sull’ucraino Volodymyr Starchyk, appena tornato dal Tour of Iran con una buona condizione. Dopo di che prenderemo parte allo US Air Force a Washington D.C. e poi andremo in Canada per il Tour de Beauce. In queste gare Holloway avrà sicuramente diverse buone chance. In ogni modo, devo ammettere che - soprattutto in Canada - ci aspettiamo molto anche David Boily che correrà in casa, davanti agli sponsor Argon 18 e Spidertech e quindi non potrà più sbagliare”.
Per USA e Canada sono partiti questa mattina anche l’israeliano Mikhailov, il polacco Dabrowski ed il lettone Luksevics che andranno così a completare l’organico al fianco Holloway, Boily e Starchyk. A dirigere questi atleti ci sarà il canadese Phil Cortes.
Oltre agli appuntamenti oltreoceano Amore & Vita – Argon 18 sarà impegnata anche in Europa, al Tour of Estonia (UCI 2.1). Saranno presenti a questa gara a tappe gli atleti che hanno appena disputato il Tour of Iran ad eccezione del campione UCI Asia Tour 2012 Hossein Alizadeh che proprio nella sua terra ed al debutto stagionale, ha colto il 4° posto in classifica generale ed altri due piazzamenti nei primi cinque (3° nella prima tappa e 4° nella quinta e penultima frazione) a conferma del suo talento.
Maurizio Giorgini guiderà la formazione composta dall’atleta di casa Mihkel Raim, dagli ucraini Topchanuyk, Sevostianov e Storchous, dall’israeliano Libner, dal messicano Matins e dall’italiano Di Battista (che in Iran ha colto tre ottimi piazzamenti nei primi dieci).

Daniel Ray Holloway, 25 years old Texan sprinter, twice American Champion and already winner of five races this, including a stage at the Sea Otter Classic, signs with Amore & Vita - Argon 18 and Sunday, June 2 will debut in the prestigious Philadelphia Cycling Classic.
“Daniel is an important reinforcement for us - says Cristian Fanini - with him we definitely fill that little gap that we had so far in sprints. Actually we have already a sprinter, who is the young Estonian talent Mihkel Raim, however he’s has only 20 years old and although he already won a race in Estonia this season, he needs time to grow up and be really competitive at high levels. Holloway instead does have the maturity, the skills and the right experience to achieve immediately important results.”
In past seasons indeed Daniel Holloway raced with team Garmin, then Bissell and finally in 2012 he moved to England with team Raleigh.
“I was following this rider for a while - says the team manager - especially after seeing him win last year a great sprint at the Vuelta Mexico. Then this year he started the season with a U.S. team getting undergone several notable successes as the last stage of the Sea Otter Classic, a major stage race of the American calendar. So I’m very proud to have reached an agreement with him and I am sure that between now and the end of the season he will give us many satisfactions.
Holloway will be at the start with our team at the Philadelphia Classic, a race that I love because I think it’s one of the most beautiful and exciting one day race in the world. Unfortunately for Holloway the race this year will have a different course and the finish will no longer be appropriate to sprinters, as it will finish on top of the impressive Manyunk Wall. We will aim therefore on Volodymyr Starchyk, who just got back from Tour of Iran with a really good condition.
After that we will take part at U.S. Air Force in Washington DC and then we’ll go to Canada for the Tour de Beauce. In these races Holloway will certainly have many good chances to win.
Anyway, I must admit that - especially in Canada - we expect a lot from David Boily who will race in his country, in front of the sponsors Argon 18 and Spidertech and therefore he cannot make any mistakes. “
For USA and Canada there will be also the Israeli Champ Anton Mikhailov, the Polish climber Jaroslaw Dabrowski and the Latvian Viesturs Luksevics, while former pro Phil Cortes will lead the team as director.
In addition to these appointments overseas, Amore & Vita - Argon 18 will be committed also in Europe, at the Tour of Estonia (UCI 2.1).
To this stage race there will be present those athletes who have just competed in the Tour of Iran with the exception of the 2012 UCI Asia Tour Champion Hossein Alizadeh, whom in its seasonal debut, was able to achieve the 4th place in the G.C. and arrived twice in top five (3rd in the first stage and 4th in the fifth stage) as confirmation of his talent.
So there will be lined up at the start these racers: the Estonian Mihkel Raim, the Ukrainians Topchanuyk, Sevostianov and Storchous, the Israeli Libner, the Mexican Martins and the Italian Di Battista (whom in Iran achieved three good results in the top ten). Maurizio Giorgini will be the sports director.
