Lidl-Trek, one of the teams that first believed in the development of women's cycling, is increasing its commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent in women's cycling by launching the Lidl-Trek Future Racing Women.
The new team will bring together ten promising cyclists from eight different nations, creating a dedicated pathway to the highest levels of the sport and further strengthening Lidl-Trek's long-term investment in women's cycling. As the demands for competing at the Women's WorldTour level continue to grow, the introduction of a development team will provide athletes with the time, resources, and opportunities needed to progress in a supportive environment, allowing them to gain experience and confidence before taking the next step in their careers.
For Frank Schleck, Women's Team Manager, the project represents a significant investment both for the future of Lidl-Trek and for the overall development of women's cycling. "Our goal is to give young cyclists the time, support, and opportunities they need to grow. The jump to the WorldTour is becoming increasingly challenging; this is why we want to create a clear pathway where athletes can learn, make mistakes, and mature, without the immediate pressure of having to deliver results." "This is the right moment, because women's cycling is growing and our investment must go beyond the WorldTour team. We also have the responsibility to contribute to the development of the next generation".
The inaugural roster reflects Lidl-Trek's ambition to bring together emerging talents from across the cycling world, focusing on potential, character, and a shared enthusiasm for learning. Italy will be represented by Chantal Pegolo and Matilde Rossignoli, alongside Austrian Tabea Huys and Luxembourger Liv Wenzel. From Spain comes Ane Zubeldia, from the United Kingdom Kate Richardson, from Denmark Olympia Norris-Mortensen and from Germany Messane Bräutigam. Completing the group of ten athletes are Americans Katherine Sarkisov and Ella Sabo.
"In selecting the athletes, we looked beyond simple results. Potential, attitude, the desire to learn, and the contribution each could offer to the group were fundamental aspects. We also want to support cyclists in different disciplines, because there is no single path to becoming a successful professional road cyclist", Schleck explained. While racing and results naturally fall within the team's objectives, the success of the project will ultimately be measured through the long-term growth of the athletes. "The goal is to prepare them for the demands of professional cycling, both on and off the bike. Winning is part of this learning journey, but success will also mean seeing athletes gain confidence, take on responsibility, and, over time, earn a place in the WorldTour".
The foundations of the new project have already begun to take shape: the development team athletes recently joined their WorldTour teammates in Bad Wimpfen for an initial team gathering. "Our first meeting in Bad Wimpfen was a truly encouraging start. Bringing together the development team athletes with those from the WorldTour immediately fostered the creation of bonds. There was a lot of energy and curiosity; I want every girl to feel part of this group and to have a future with us".
With the first roster now finalized and preparations for 2027 already underway, Lidl-Trek is preparing to support a new generation of cyclists, guiding them through their next steps toward the pinnacle of professional cycling.
