She has no shortage of talent. Agata Campana has proven this by racing on the road and in the velodrome, wearing the National team jersey and the colors of Bft Burzoni VO2 Team Pink. Born in Castelfranco Veneto but adopted by Trentino, the 2008-born athlete has concluded her second season as a Junior and her time with the Piacenza-based team.
«These have been two wonderful years, I must thank the entire Bft Burzoni VO2 group for the many opportunities and for everything we experienced together. I am very close to my teammates who are great friends and I must admit it's a bit sad to leave them, but you know, things move forward. You grow», Agata tells tuttobiciweb answering the phone from Trento, where she lives.
In the future of the young champion there is the transition to professionalism, but first we need to rewind the tape, look at what has been and take stock. «In this season I feel I have grown, taken another step forward. I've achieved several satisfactions. The first goal I set for myself was to win an international road race and I succeeded in the third stage of the Omloop van Borsele where I also finished second in the second stage», she states.
April was a magical month for Campana in which, in addition to the victory in the Nations Cup race in Holland, she also achieved successes in Fossano and Bianconese, to which are added the victories in Bovolone, in early March, and the one obtained in Monza, in May.
After the road victories, Agata changed her focus: «I chose to concentrate on the track», she tells us. The summer in the velodromes yielded continental titles in the Elimination and Scratch and world titles in the Elimination and in the Madison (with Matilde Rossignoli). «I am very happy with what I managed to achieve. All victories are special but if I have to choose the one that moved me the most I choose the Elimination at the Europeans in Cottbus. It was the first time I tried this specialty. The support of my teammates and national team members sustained me throughout the race and at the end I was truly very emotional, winning was like a release», says the Italian champion who in her palmares can also boast European silver in the Madison, again with teammate and friend Matilde Rossignoli, second place in the Scratch and fourth in the Omnium at the Heusden-Zolder Worlds.
Young, winning and determined. Campana often speaks of goals and in recounting her season does not want to overlook the emotions she felt winning the Italian team time trial championship: «It was a goal we wanted to achieve, the title that was missing for Bft Burzoni VO2. At the beginning of the season we defined it as our objective and we achieved it (with the Orsi twins and Rossignoli). I am very proud of this victory achieved with my teammates and great friends».
Agata grew up on a bicycle: «I started cycling when I was five years old. Moving from category to category, the commitment grew, but when I get on my bike I become the child living a dream», she states.
One of the dreams that Agata is about to realize is the leap into the big world. That world admired so far from the outside in which, however, the young cyclist has already identified a reference point for herself: «Lorena Wiebes. She is very strong and the way she races and wins is fascinating. Among her successes is also my dream race, the Milano – Sanremo Women».
