Filippo Ganna has been working hard over the past few days in Montichiari, with the track Worlds in Shanghai approaching rapidly. Tomorrow he will line up at the Coppa Bernocchi, the last road race of his season but which could also be his final race in the Netcompany Ineos jersey.
And that's no small news for a "loyal" member of the British team, which he joined in 2019 after two years with UAE. Ganna has a contract with Netcompany through 2027 but in recent weeks there has been - as Ciro Scognamiglio reveals on La Gazzetta dello Sport - strong interest from Lidl Trek.
The German team, which has revolutionized its management and technical staff and is profoundly changing its roster - confirmed arrivals include Gall, Arrieta, Alvarez, Jegat, Meeus, Muhlberger and Zimmermann, with equally certain departures of Mollema and Walscheid who are retiring (though they won't be the only ones...) Bagioli, Geoghegan Hart and Teutenberg, with Ciccone also among those leaving - is considering bringing a rider like Ganna into its lineup. For the Piedmontese rider, this would represent, as mentioned, a historic change: the parties are talking about it, that's certain.
Meanwhile Pippo keeps pedaling: as mentioned, tomorrow the Bernocchi, then back to the track, the flight to China, the hunt for the world title with the team pursuit and possible participation in the individual pursuit event which will be decided only once in Asia. Pippo never stops, while waiting to find out what jersey he'll be wearing next year.
