A new jaw fracture rules Urška Žigart out of the Montreal World Championships. This comes from a statement by the AG Insurance – Soudal team, which explains that after being involved in a crash during yesterday's stage of the Faun Tour Femmes, the Slovenian rider underwent medical examinations that "revealed a new jaw fracture" following the one she sustained in the crash at the Tour de Suisse.

The statement also reads: "Given the nature of the injury and the fact that it is a repeated fracture, Urška's 2026 season will likely end prematurely. This would also mean she will miss the upcoming World Championships".

The Netherlands and Belgium also lose two important pieces ahead of the women's road world championship. Mischa Bredewold, called up by Dutch Technical Commissioner Laurens ten Dam to support Demi Vollering, will not be competing: the examinations the 29-year-old SD Worx Protime rider underwent after the crash in the first stage of the Faun Tour Femmes revealed a pelvic fracture in addition to an elbow wound.

Bredewold herself announced the news on her social media, calling this setback "a huge disappointment" given that she had the World Championships on the road in Canada on the horizon, as well as the track world championships scheduled for October in China.

Justine Ghekiere was also particularly unlucky, sustaining a kneecap fracture at the Faun Tour Femmes and thus having to say goodbye to the world championship challenge. The Belgian cycling federation has already announced that on Saturday, September 26, Sandrine Tas will take her place, making her world championship debut on the bike after a long career in ice skating.

To see Ghekiere racing again, we'll have to wait until 2027: the AG Insurance – Soudal, Justine's club team, has confirmed that the Belgian will end her season early.
