The determination with which Laboral Kutxa - Fundación Euskadi approaches its third Tour de France Femmes is already evident from the graphics (which you can see at the top) that the team has chosen to announce its roster: seven athletes "on the attack" united under the Basque flag.
Coach Ion Lazkano has appointed Usoa Ostolaza as team captain, who finished fourth at the Vuelta España Femenina. "Our objective is to fight for the general classification with Usoa and try to secure a place in the top ten. The time trial is probably not the terrain that favors us most, but a climb like Mont Ventoux (scheduled for August 7th) perfectly suits her characteristics and we know her potential well," said the coach speaking about the 28-year-old from Zarautz.
To achieve the stated objective, Laboral Kutxa - Fundación Euskadi also relies on two Italian riders: Arianna Fidanza and Debora Silvestri. The Bergamo native, who found victory this year at the Pionera Race, will start after finishing seventh in the Italian national championships in June.
Silvestri has a similar preparation schedule, who after having to slow down her season due to a crash at Milano-Sanremo Women, participated in and completed the Giro d'Italia Women (thirteenth in the stage finishing in Buja, ed.note) and then competed in the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya and the Italian championship where she finished eleventh. Now Debora is expected to compete in her second major stage race of the season in which she will certainly contribute to the team's cause.
The Iberian team for the Tour de France Femmes will be completed by Naia Amondarain, a 25-year-old native of Ibarra, Ukrainian champion Yuliia Biriukova, Colombian Paula Patiño and Navarrese Idoia Eraso.
