The overnight anti-doping checks on Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard have caused quite a stir. Even the riders themselves have spoken out. Beyond Remco Evenepoel's statement on the matter, one teammate from each of the two protagonists has also expressed their views.

Regarding Pogacar, here's Florian Vermeersch speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws: «Tadej handled it brilliantly, but it remains an outrageous fact! As far as I know, this is the first time these checks have been carried out at such hours. Now people will say we're complaining, but the yellow jersey didn't get five hours of sleep last night. Maybe this will charge him up even more, who knows...»

Anglo-Saxon media report the statement from one of Vingegaard's most talented domestiques, Matteo Jorgenson: «I was told to keep my opinion to myself, but this is a total lack of respect toward the riders. For Jonas and all of us, rest is of vital importance, especially during the night between the two hardest mountain stages of the Tour. And they come wake you up at 2 in the morning. These are things that really get me angry!»
