The Uno-X Mobility fairy tale at the Tour de France continues. After wearing the yellow jersey with Torstein Træen and animating the first part of the Tour de France with breakaways and attacks, the Norwegian team experienced the most beautiful day in its Tour history. In the eleventh stage, 161.3 kilometers from Vichy to Nevers, came a splendid double: the victory of Søren Wærenskjold at the end of a perfect sprint and the combativity award won by teammate Anthon Charmig.
A success that certifies the growth of a team capable of transforming itself, stage after stage, from pleasant surprise to absolute protagonist of the Tour. In Bordeaux it had come close to the feat. In Nevers, however, Søren Wærenskjold did not let the opportunity slip away. The Norwegian found the right opening in the final meters, surprising everyone with an irresistible acceleration.
"I made it this time - he said smiling after the finish line - I thought I was too far back, then suddenly a space opened up on the right, something that normally doesn't happen. It was a feeling very similar to the one I had when winning the Omloop Nieuwsblad".
Not a casual comparison. Also in the Belgian classic of 2025, the Uno-X rider seemed out of the game before finding the perfect moment to launch his sprint.
Born in 2000, Under 23 world champion in the time trial and bronze medalist in the world championship road race in 2022, Wærenskjold had already achieved prestigious results. But nothing is comparable to a victory at the Tour de France.
"I've won important races, but this means everything. It's the most beautiful victory of my career. When I arrived at the Tour I knew there were two or three faster sprinters than me, but I was convinced that, with a bit of luck and a perfect sprint, I could compete. Today it happened".
A success built also with great mental strength.
"After the crash I felt really bad. I thought it would be a day to forget, instead my body reacted. With the adrenaline I felt better and better in the final kilometers. It was a stage full of ups and downs. Now I still need to realize what happened".
The final sprint was one of the most chaotic of this Tour. Wærenskjold remained covered until the last moment, without wasting energy, waiting for the right opportunity.
"It was a really particular sprint. I knew we had to be at the front already six kilometers from the finish, but with all the favorites up front it was extremely difficult to find space. In the last corner I even lost a bit of grip, then an opening appeared on the right. I waited for something to happen and, in the end, that opportunity came".
The Norwegian anticipated everyone, surprising even Jasper Philipsen and Olav Kooij, the only ones able to get close to him in the final meters.
Wærenskjold's success completes a day to frame for the Norwegian team. The combativity award given to Anthon Charmig. After the yellow jersey worn by Torstein Træen and the continuous breakaways in the first eleven stages, the Scandinavian team finally reaps the most prestigious reward: a victory at the Tour de France that is worth much more than a simple stage win. It is the consecration of a project that continues to grow and that, day after day, is conquering the public of the Grande Boucle.
