The third stage of the 2026 Tour de France, scheduled for Monday with finish in Les Angles, in the Eastern Pyrenees, is threatened by a massive wildfire that is spreading throughout the region.
A decision on any possible route modification will be made by tonight by the prefect of the department: "We have been working on this since this afternoon. We will be able to make a decision by the end of the day," declared Pierre Regnault de la Mothe, prefect of the Eastern Pyrenees, during a press conference.
The wildfire spreading throughout the department has already burned approximately 1,500 hectares and is about 70 kilometers away from Les Angles, where the finish of the third stage of the Tour de France (195.9 km) is scheduled, with the start from Granollers, Spain, at noon.
UPDATE 7 PM. As feared, the wildfires currently raging in the Eastern Pyrenees will have an impact on the third stage of the Tour de France between Granollers and Les Angles. The prefecture announced that the race will be "adapted" and will take place "behind closed doors" on French territory.
"The advertising caravan will not travel through France, the passage will be reservedfor riders and vehicles essential to the organization of the race," explained prefect Pierre Regnault de la Mothe at the press conference.
The prefect, with statements also reiterated by Tour director Christian Prudhomme, added: "We have asked the public not to approach the route or the finish area. I am sorry to announce this, but it will be a Tour de France stage finish without spectators."
These restrictions will apply to the final 44 kilometers – out of a total of 196 – of this third stage:the public will not be admitted on the final two climbs (both third category), the Col du Calvaire (11.4 km at 4.1%) and then at the finish in Les Angles (1.7 km at 6.5%).
