The crash on the roads of the Ravenna area during the first stage of the Giro d'Italia forced Cat Ferguson to withdraw from the "pink race", but the aftermath of that accident will prevent the British rider from participating in the national championships and, most importantly, the Tour de France Femmes.
The mishap, which initially appeared to have left only superficial marks and bruises on the body of the 20-year-old Movistar rider, turned out to be a more serious injury. The Spanish team announced this in a statement.
In recent weeks Cat has continued her recovery at home, but as Team Movistar reports, «The clinical evolution has not been as expected». This prompted the medical team to investigate further with additional tests that revealed the presence of «two fractures to the ankle», writes the Iberian team, which, announcing Ferguson's withdrawal from the national championships and the grand boucle, assures maximum support for the rider without, however, communicating a certain date for her return to competition.
