There are eleven. The most anticipated, the most feared. Let's also say the most spectacular. And the Muro di Ca' del Poggio is among them. The Giro d'Italia, together with partner Tudor, launches a project that aims to map the climbs of professional cycling, building an archive of ascents that have made (and will make) the history of this sport. The objective? To offer enthusiasts a chronometric reference with which to compare themselves during their cycling outings, thus giving life to a heritage of stories, data and emotions.
Among the 49 climbs that characterize the three weeks of racing in the 2026 edition of the Corsa Rosa, 11 have been selected. Here they are: Blockhaus, Capodarco, Corno alle Scale, Colla dei Scioli, Ungiasca, Pila, Carì, Andalo-Lever, Muro di Ca' del Poggio, Passo Giau and Piancavallo.
The Giro d'Italia initiative provides that, at the beginning and end of each climb, a timing point will be set up which, in the case of the Muro di Ca' del Poggio, will correspond with the arch of the King of the Mountains award.
To the passion of the many cyclists who daily pedal on the Muro di Ca' del Poggio and on the other iconic climbs of the Giro d'Italia, the choice to then compare themselves with the time achieved by the champions during the passage of the Corsa Rosa, in a route that unites sport and territory, transforming each ascent into a timed challenge.
The Muro di Ca' del Poggio - the only climb officially certified by the Italian Cycling Federation, twinned since 2016 with the Muro di Grammont and since 2018 with the Mur-de-Bretagne - has unique characteristics. It stretches for just over one kilometer on entirely paved road, with an average gradient of 12.3% and peaks of 19%. It's a sharp, decisive, merciless effort that this year too is set to be among the most anticipated and engaging moments of the Giro d'Italia.
A vertical spectacle (even if at only 200 meters above sea level) that promises to recreate the magic of the twenty thousand enthusiasts who in recent editions have framed the passage of the riders among the vineyards. "The Muro di Ca' del Poggio – writes the Giro d'Italia organization – is not just a simple climb but a small theater of cycling among the Prosecco Hills, a UNESCO World Heritage site". The countdown is about to begin.
DJ MARCO MELANDRI ON THE MURO - From motorcycle racing champion to console star: Marco Melandri will be among the most anticipated guests of the Grande Festa Rosa that on Thursday, May 28 will welcome the passage of the Giro d'Italia on the Muro di Ca' del Poggio, in San Pietro di Feletto.
Forty-three years old, from Ravenna, Melandri was world champion in the 250cc class and then Italian record holder for victories in the Superbike world championship (22 wins). In 2023, after officially retiring from the motorcycle racing scene, Melandri decided to dedicate himself to music, embarking on a new path made of study, research and artistic growth. And, now that he has become a professional DJ and performer, music represents for Marco a new field of expression, ultimately not so different from the one that saw him as a protagonist on motorcycle circuits around the world for many seasons.
CELEBRATION & SOLIDARITY - On Thursday, May 28, the Giro d'Italia will return to the Muro di Ca' del Poggio for the ninth time, third consecutive, on the occasion of the 18th stage that will start from Fai della Paganella, in Trentino, to conclude among the Prosecco hills. The passage of the Giro d'Italia on the Muro di Ca' del Poggio will be accompanied by the spectacle of the Grande Festa Rosa, open to all enthusiasts, which promises to renew the emotions of the last transits of the riders on the iconic ascent among the vineyards. A crowd estimated at twenty thousand people both in 2024 and 2025.
Awaiting the passage of the stage, the San Pietro di Feletto climb will thus be enriched with food and wine stands managed by local associations, music from the DJs of Radio Company, media partner of the event, the friendliness of the mascot Poggy, great guests from the world of sports and entertainment – Marco Melandri and more - and exceptional testimonials. The Giro d'Italia advertising caravan is expected on the Muro around 3:30 PM, shortly after the passage of the Giro-E. The passage of the stage will instead occur around 5 PM. Access to the Muro will be as always free, with ample parking at the foot of the climb. Two large screens with live coverage of the stage are also planned.
The passage of the Giro d'Italia on the Muro di Ca' del Poggio will also be an opportunity for solidarity, with a fundraising collection in favor of three important realities: the Bone Marrow Transplant Center of the Complex Operating Unit of Hematology of the Ca' Foncello hospital, the "New School" project which aims at the realization of a new school building in Cambodia and the "Strength is not violence" project, an awareness initiative against gender-based violence, developed through the language of sport and the involvement of sports realities in the territory.
Once again this year the Grande Festa Rosa among the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is thus ready to propose itself in the setting of what can now be considered among the most classic climbs of the Giro d'Italia.
