Saturday, May 2nd at 4 PM at the cinema on via XX settembre in Gemona del Friuli (UD) will premiere the Raisport documentary 'Friuli 1976 Sport and Rebirth' written and directed by Franco Bortuzzo.
In 55 minutes, seven stories of sport are told that helped lift Friuli back up after the devastating earthquake of May 6, 1976. Two of these concern cycling: the first is the story of the Milan family, with Eligio, the grandfather, first an amateur cyclist and then sports director, Flavio, the father, first Italian Youth Champion and then founder, together with his friend Marco Zontone, of Jam's Bike, a breeding ground for cycling talent, and finally Jonathan, the champion we all know, a Milan family that made Buja (UD) a reference point for cycling.
The second story concerns Gemona (UD), the city most affected by the earthquake (400 deaths) which immediately sought the path of sport to recover, hosting two stages of the Giro d'Italia already in 1977, in a surreal atmosphere, and then created a close bond with cycling, confirmed by the penultimate stage of the Giro d'Italia 2026, Gemona-Piancavallo, next Saturday, May 30th.
The documentary will then air as a Radiocorsa Special on Raisport Thursday, May 7th at 7 PM and again on Rai 3 Friuli Venezia Giulia Sunday, May 10th at 1 PM.
