We left him at Roubaix with the taste of defeat, but today Tadej Pogacar is ready as never before and wants to bring home his fourth victory at Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
"What did I do after Paris-Roubaix? I trained," Tadej Pogacar said laughing at the team presentation. The 28-year-old Slovenian, two-time world champion, has won three Liège races: in 2021 (beating Alaphilippe in a five-man sprint), in 2024 and 2025 with two almost identical attacks on the Redoute 35 km from the finish. "Liège is certainly a completely different race, but on the other hand it's also very demanding. In that sense, there's a similarity with Roubaix: you need to be in good shape, able to sustain an effort of 6-7 hours. Except here there are more climbs."
Pogacar is the man to beat and tomorrow he will start as the number one favorite.
"These days I've also been to the barber - Pogacar jokes, having won 12 Monuments: ahead of him is only Eddy Merckx with 19. - Is the Redoute decisive? It's not just about that climb. There are so many difficult ascents on this route, you need good legs for the whole day. It will be tough and you know who the rivals are, those who won the classics this week (Evenepoel at the Amstel and Seixas at the Giro di Lombardia, editor's note). There's a lot of talk about Remco and Paul, they've shown they're in good shape, but everyone seems ready, so there will be many riders capable of winning. You can't rule anyone out: at least one rider from each team can win."
