For the first time in its roll of honor, the Classic Vélo Adélie de Vitré speaks Spanish. Thanks to a sprint that saw him finish behind Pierre Gautherat (later disqualified to sixteenth place for deviating his trajectory in the final meters), Marc Brustenga secured the victory in the 2026 edition of the Breton race held today over a distance of 174 kilometers.
The Spanish rider from Equipo Kern Pharma, achieving his first professional victory in his career, preceded Portuguese Iúri Leitão (Caja Rural - Seguros RGA) and Frenchman Louis Hardouin (Van Rysel Roubaix) with Giovanni Lonardi (Polti VisitMalta) securing fourth place after Gautherat's demotion.
THE RACE
The race was characterized by a long four-man breakaway featuring Axel van der Tuuk (Euskaltel – Euskadi), Javier Ibáñez (Caja Rural - Seguros RGA), Quinten De Graeve (Team Novo Nordisk) and Victor Jean (Elite Fondations Cycling Team). Working constructively together, the four maintained their lead until the closing laps of the second circuit around Vitré when the Dutchman, first alongside Jean and then solo, attempted a lone attack 13 kilometers from the finish.
Remaining always no more than 30 seconds behind, the peloton however was not caught off guard and by accelerating promptly reabsorbed the last survivor of the day's breakaway attempt (caught shortly before the regrouping by Gorka Sorarrain of Caja Rural - Seguros RGA) at 5.6 kilometers from the finish. Back together, the peloton went on to contest the victory in the sprint where Gautherat, left in an optimal position by his teammates, squandered everything by deviating his trajectory in the final tens of meters.
Having detected the improper maneuver by the judges and disqualified the Frenchman to sixteenth place, the victory was thus awarded to Brustenga who, finishing ahead of Leitão and Hardouin, celebrated his first triumph among the professional peloton as well as the second victory of 2026 for Equipo Kern Pharma following Ivan Cobo's win at the Region on Dodecanese GP.
