During the fourth stage of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali, an incident occurred involving two intoxicated fans. One of them climbed onto the team car of Team Visma | Lease a Bike and attempted to steal a bicycle from the roof while theother fan behaved very aggressively towards the occupants of the vehicle.

The general manager of the Dutch team, Richard Plugge, commented: «We take this incident very seriously, as it put the safety of our colleagues at risk. Our staff on site immediately contacted the authorities and reported the incident to the race organization as well. In the end, no equipment was stolen and no damage occurred. The colleagues in the car are fine, but understandably shaken».

According to reports, the two intoxicated individuals had just left a trattoria and "targeted" the second team car of Visma Lease a Bike, which was parked on the roadside waiting to rejoin the race.
