It had been over a year since Magnus Cort raised his arms to the sky, an incredibly long time for someone like him who is used to always making his mark. Today, however, at the finish line in Banyoles, the Danish athlete showed he was back to his old self, he sprinted and left the entire group behind him after a very nervous and eventful stage, exactly the way he likes it.

«It was a very difficult stage and I wasn't even sure I could fight for the sprint. On the descent I was really far back, but as soon as my teammates noticed, they came to get me and brought me to the front. I can't explain how they managed it, but they were able to take me from the last position in the group to the first. It was tremendous work and I'm really happy to have repaid them with a victory. Today is the first time in a long time that I finally feel good. » explained Cort, who managed to make the most of his teammates' great work. The victory, by his own admission, has the taste of a comeback, confirmation that he has returned to the highest level after a really complicated 2025. Last year he had focused everything on the Tour (where he has already won in 2022 and 2018), but he got sick and never managed to make a difference. He held on all the way to Paris, perhaps underestimating the problem and finding himself forced to end the season already in mid-August.

Today Magnus Cort triumphed in what was on paper the perfect stage for his characteristics and achieving a success that was still missing from his palmares. «At the Volta Catalunya there are stages very similar to today's and suited to my characteristics; usually a large group always arrives, but pure sprinters pay the consequences of the undulating terrain. I know these places very well and I'm quite attached to them; in the early years when I turned professional I lived in Girona and always rode this road. While I was pedaling today I was thinking about how many years have passed and how many things I've done, I remember riding these roads all the time and on rest days I always went to the lake for a swim, it was beautiful. Today for me it was like winning at home.»
