The Union Européenne de Cyclisme held its annual Congress in Avignon (France), in the prestigious setting of the Palais des Papes, one of the symbolic places of European history. A venue of extraordinary cultural and institutional value that provided the ideal context for reflection on the present and, above all, on the future of continental cycling.
The Congress was attended by delegates from 46 National Federations out of 51 affiliates, as well as the President of the Union Cycliste Internationale, David Lappartient.
In his address, President Enrico Della Casa presented an overview of the main issues characterizing the Confederation's work: the development of women's cycling, the strengthening of youth policies, Europe's central role in the global cycling movement, environmental sustainability and balanced growth of national federations. Particular attention was devoted to the progressive advancement of women's cycling, both in sporting terms and in leadership roles, and to structured investments in young people, considered the cornerstone of the movement's future. The UEC's commitment to modern, inclusive governance oriented towards promoting cycling in all European countries was also reaffirmed.
In the 2025 activity report, 18 European Championships organized, 163 titles awarded and the expansion of medal distribution among an increasing number of nations were highlighted, signaling ever more widespread development.
Considerable space was also dedicated to the Solidarity Programme supported by the UCI, the consolidation of activities at the UCI Satellite Centre in Anadia, the environmental project "UEC Forest" and confirmation of solid and rigorous financial management.
During the Congress, delegates from the National Federations present unanimously approved the reports presented by President Enrico Della Casa, Secretary General Alasdair MacLennan and Treasurer Bernd Dankowski, renewing confidence in the Confederation's strategic and management direction.
Enrico Della Casa, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme: «Europe is not only the continent with the greatest cycling tradition: it is the place where cycling was born, became structured and built its own identity. Today we must go beyond our history and become a concrete reference point for safety, inclusion, sustainability and governance quality. Investing in women's cycling, strengthening programmes dedicated to young people and supporting national federations in their development means building solid foundations for the future. The numbers from the last season demonstrate that our movement is alive and growing, with ever more nations taking centre stage. But this is only a starting point: we must continue to work together, with unity and shared vision, to make European cycling even stronger, more open and more modern».
During the Congress, the National Federations winning the UEC Rankings (France) and the 2025 overall medal table (Italy) were awarded, and UEC Merit awards were presented to Catherine Gastou (France), Jolanda Polkamp (Netherlands) and Joe Bajada (Malta), while the UEC Gold Licences, the highest UEC honour, were conferred on Agata Lang Lelangue (Poland) and Henrik Jess Jensen (Denmark).
