The Sirente Bike Marathon definitively interrupts its journey. Following a careful and thoughtful evaluation, the Avezzano Mtb has decided after eight editions to no longer proceed with the organization.
Between 2017 and 2025, the Sirente Bike Marathon was at the center of national mountain bike events, hosting the Italian Championships under the Italian Cycling Federation's aegis in 2019, as well as several editions as an FCI Abruzzo regional championship event. Only in 2020 was it not held due to the pandemic.
The definitive decision stems from tangibly perceiving the many difficulties emerging at an international level. Faced with a constant increase in costs and logistical challenges, the possibilities of bringing such a large-scale event to completion have progressively diminished.
Not least, the many legal risks and responsibilities associated with managing an event of this significance have emerged, highlighting the impossibility of guaranteeing an adequate level of safety in all circumstances, as required by current regulations.
A difficult and painful choice, but necessary for reasons that do not allow for ensuring a harmonious organizational management, in light of the rigorous safety requirements prescribed by law, to protect all involved parties, from organizers to collaborators, up to participants.
This definitive stop has forced the organizers to interrupt important and solid collaborations built over the years within prestigious mountain bike circuits and in the off-road sector of the Italian Cycling Federation.
Despite this, the commitment to the territory and community remains unchanged, waiting for those who will want to take on this legacy. The Avezzano Mtb organizers thank the Municipal Administration of Aielli, the Alpini Group of Aielli, the sponsors, and the regional committee of the Abruzzo Cycling Federation for their precious collaboration and constant support received over these years.
A special thanks goes to the Abruzzo Region and the Sirente Velino Regional Natural Park, whose support was crucial for the event's success and for coordinating every organizational phase most effectively.
Should a new event be organized, it can no longer bear the name "Sirente Bike Marathon", which marked an important period of maximum splendor for the Avezzano Mtb's organizational curriculum.
The curtain officially falls on one of the most illustrious events in the national mountain bike calendar, one of the most participated in Central-Southern Italy, continuing to seek new ways to share the passion for nature and two-wheel sports, a combination that has given so much to the Sirente Velino Regional Natural Park territory.
