TUTTOBICI AWARDS. CHANTAL PEGOLO: "I LOVE THE ROAD, I DISCOVERED THE TRACK AND... HERE I AM AT THE OSCAR AGAIN"

INTERVIEW | 20/11/2025 | 08:22
di Giorgia Monguzzi

Chantal Pegolo scores a triple at the tuttoBICI Awards, she is now a faithful attendee of our gala evening and will be with us on November 28th to receive the Mapei Grand Prix for the best junior athlete. This is yet another recognition for the Friulian rider from U.C Conscio Pedale del Sile who closed 2025 with successes both on track and road: a world title in elimination, a European title in points race, a silver and a bronze in the line events of the world and continental championships, just to mention the most important ones.

"I'm extremely happy about this year, but this Oscar was unexpected. I tried to commit myself to the maximum, but achieving the desired results is never a given," Chantal tells us before we go through her extraordinary season together.

At the beginning of the season, she started working with trainer Luca Quinti, focusing more on details to become a complete athlete, thus also improving her time trial which had always been her weak point. What stands out about Chantal's year is her consistency, her ability to balance major events with rest periods, and her precision in always being ready when it counts.

There are many moments to remember, but the world championship silver has a truly special place for her. "Actually, I can't really describe what happened in Kigali, I probably haven't fully realized it yet. Sometimes I look back at the photos and videos from that day, but truly believing it is impossible - she says, visibly emotional - I remember the feeling of crossing the finish line with only one person ahead of me, the Spanish rider Ortiz was absolutely the strongest, while everyone else was behind. It took me some time to understand this, on the podium while listening to the Spanish national anthem I kept crying, I was extremely emotional and it didn't seem real."

The road remains Chantal Pegolo's first love, but since last year she has started working more consistently on the track. Initially, it was meant to be a way to enhance and improve her line races, but soon she began obtaining results up to the world jersey in elimination: "I started doing track because it was recommended to me, but only this year did I realize how important it was for the road. My fear was having such a workload that it would compromise all other activities, but Diego Bragato reassured me a lot. I truly want to thank him because within the national team he made me feel at home, I met many special people and a great group was created. They gave me great confidence and that pushed me to try elimination at the world championships and in the end I even won. I didn't expect it and that success caught us all by surprise, it was supposed to be just a way to prepare for the omnium and now I have a world jersey framed at home" continues Chantal, who has integrated well into the blue team. Now on the track she not only learns but enjoys herself, and we can say a true love has been born almost at the same level as the road. Points race is her favorite specialty, but one of her goals for next year is to improve in the team pursuit and madison.

In Chantal Pegolo's special 2025, the last three months have been crazier than ever. In addition to track titles and road medals, the Friulian girl officially entered the Fiamme Azzurre and signed a contract with Lidl Trek starting from 2027 where she will find her idol Elisa Balsamo. It's a dream moment she's experiencing in one breath, but burning out is just a moment and Chantal has already understood that the secret is to take one step at a time to grow and find her path. At the moment she defines herself as a puncheur climber, a complete athlete who has yet to discover her limits, she can't wait to test herself and face new challenges. 2026 will be a transition year, her first among the elites and an opportunity to adapt, but also to find time to finish her studies. With Giovanni Fidanza's Team Isolmant, Chantal will be able to taste her first international races before the big leap towards her dream.
