Remco Evenepoel has taken the first steps of his adventure with Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe, and the German team has organized a working group that will help the Belgian further improve his level and achieve the results he has not yet managed to reach. At Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe, everyone carefully watched the presentation of the Tour de France route and, after seeing that the time trial, Remco's strong point, offers few kilometers, they are waiting to see what the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España will offer, whose routes have yet to be officially announced.
Behind a great champion, there is always a great staff supporting him, and Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe has created a group of specialists ranging from aerodynamics to nutrition and communication, who will revolve around the Brabant champion.
The Belgian has already recently tested with Specialized (the same bike as Soudal Quick Step, where he was previously), followed some advice from his coach, and last week reached his new teammates and managers in Salzburg, the central headquarters of Ralph Denk's powerful team. It's no secret that Evenepoel dreams of winning the Tour de France one day, but to do so, in addition to having a course that suits his characteristics, he must also have perfect preparation.
Starting to analyze the Belgian's staff, we must begin with the law firm that assisted him in transferring to the German team. This is the Cresta studio, where lawyer Sébastien Ledure and his team represent the interests of many important athletes, like Romelu Lukaku. The group of lawyers played a key role in Evenepoel's transfer to Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe while he was contractually bound to Soudal Quick-Step until the end of 2026: without their work, some parties could have remained unsatisfied, and they will continue to represent their client's interests throughout the season.
Physical preparation will be entrusted to former cyclist Zakkari Dempster. At Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, the Australian will guide the entire athletic department of the team, and Denk expects his innovative ideas and clear leadership style to help the team write the next chapter of the team's sporting evolution. There will also be Luxembourger Dan Lorang, who will serve as Director of Coaching and Sports Sciences.
Alongside Lorang, but with a more independent role, will be John Wakefield, who will be responsible for coaches as Director of Coaching and Technical Development. We will also see a very well-known figure, Dan Bigham, who was already working as a performance engineer at INEOS Grenadiers and is called the aerodynamics professor by everyone. Bigham was already considered cutting-edge in revolutionary innovations in materials, positioning in time trials, and wind tunnel data, and at Red Bull, he will have further room for improvement to help Evenepoel grow, considering that the Belgian is already considered the best time trialist in the world. Perhaps one day, thanks to Bigham's support, Evenepoel might decide to attempt the hour record. In addition to Dan Bigham, Scottish former track cyclist and performance manager at INEOS Jonathan Wale, who transferred to Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe in 2024, will have an important role around Evenepoel, and together with Bigham, they will further develop the team in the areas of aerodynamics, technological integration, and power optimization.
From Visma-Lease a Bike, less than a year ago, Dutch nutritionist Asker Jeukendrup arrived at Red Bull, who was responsible for the famous FoodCoach program in the Dutch team. Jeukendrup played an important role at the Athlete Performance Centre and will be able to take care of the Belgian's nutrition, supported by another expert, Lara Van Genechten. We also find Klaas Lodewyck, who is not only Evenepoel's usual technician at Soudal Quick-Step for the past seven years but also his attentive ear and a beacon of trust. The Flemish regularly accompanied Evenepoel with the support car during major time trial championships, both with the Belgian team and the national team, and now we'll find him near another important figure: former national road team coach Sven Vanthourenhout.
Under the guidance of the 44-year-old Flemish coach, Evenepoel won Olympic and world titles. This created a close personal bond between the two, and Vanthourenhout is also one of the few who knows how to manage Remco's character. In addition to Lodewyck and Vanthourenhout, the sporting directors will also include Shane Archbold, Tony Gallopin, Roger Hammond, Enrico Poitschke, Christian Pömer, and Patxi Villa.
Moving beyond the purely technical aspect, we come to those friendly figures whom Evenepoel trusts blindly and could never do without. These include family friend David Geeroms, the Belgian's personal soigneur, and his cousin and mechanic Dario Kloeck. Geeroms used to cycle with Patrick Evenepoel and thus saw Remco grow up and helped him from the start in sports. When Remco was still a footballer, he began following him as a masseur and gradually also assumed the role of confidant and, in some ways, psychologist for the young Brabant native, and for this, Evenepoel can no longer do without him. Dario Kloeck, son of Nancy Evenepoel, Patrick's sister and Remco's aunt, we all remember him during the World Championship in Rwanda when there was an issue with poorly assembled bikes in the road race. The two have a close bond since childhood and completely trust each other and define themselves not as cousins, but as brothers. Both Evenepoel and Kloeck wear a chain with two crossed swords, symbolizing their friendship and the struggle they face together to achieve important life goals. Among the familiar faces who have cared for great champions over the years, we also find Gabriele Uboldi. The Italian was close to Peter Sagan for many years and has now been called to Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe to take care of the Belgian. Therefore, anyone who wants to interview or get news about the two-time Olympic champion will have to interface with Uboldi, who will also have the task of preventing the Belgian from being bothered by the media at inopportune moments.
For Evenepoel, 2026 will be an important year, and Red Bull-Bora hansgrohe has ensured that everything was perfect to welcome and support one of the greatest cyclists of the moment.
