It could only be titled "LONG LIVE US" - with his legendary greeting on the phone or via email - an exhibition dedicated to Gian Paolo Ormezzano. It was inaugurated on Sunday, October 12th in the presence of family, friends, and colleagues, and will remain open until Sunday, November 30th: hosted by the Museum of Grande Torino and the Granata Legend, how could it be otherwise?
It is an exhibition that tells the story of the extraordinary sports journalism master (he would forgive us, he didn't like being called a master...) and great Toro fan, who passed away ten months ago.
Known to everyone as GPO, Ormezzano traversed over half a century of history, narrating the greatest sporting achievements: 25 Olympics, 28 Giro d'Italia, 15 Tour de France, without forgetting events that made human history, like the first moon landing in 1969, reported from Cape Canaveral. His passion for sports was always accompanied by his endless love for Torino, which accompanied him throughout his career. Not by chance, the exhibition's subtitle reads: "25 Olympics, 28 Giro d'Italia, 15 Tour de France, 1 Moon Landing, 1 Torino Scudetto"
Born and raised journalistically at Tuttosport, of which he was Director from 1974 to 1979, Ormezzano then moved to La Stampa, where he continued to tell sports stories with his distinctive pen even after retirement. A historic signature of Famiglia Cristiana and Il Giornalino, but also of tuttoBICI since its first issue in May 1995, he left a profound mark not only in the profession but also in readers' hearts. For thirty years, the Toro Club of Melfi has been named after him, known for the vitality of its cultural events.
The Museum now pays him a due tribute with the exhibition "LONG LIVE US", set up in the Memory Room. Articles, photographs, and personal memories - generously made available by his family - will offer visitors an authentic portrait of the great journalist and his connection with the Granata world. "Torino is not a team: it's a sentiment, a story, a family. Long live us."
The Toro Museum is located at Villa Claretta Assandri in via G.B. La Salle 87 in Grugliasco. Opening hours are Saturday from 2 PM to 7 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 7 PM, with last entry at 5 PM. Guided visits can be booked online.
