The Dutch rider Jan-Willem van Schip was disqualified from the Tour of Holland NIBC at the end of today's first stage. The Parkhotel Valkenburg rider was excluded from the race by the jury. The official statement reads: excluded for using a bicycle not compliant with UCI regulations, although the specific non-compliance is not specified.
In today's stage, Van Schip had distinguished himself by attempting a solo attack less than 20 kilometers from the finish, which was well controlled by the sprinters' teams.
His sports director Chris de Jonge was also sanctioned, to whom a fine of 500 Swiss francs was imposed for the same reason.
The thirty-one-year-old Dutchman, a track specialist, returned to road racing in September after a difficult period and won the national races Wielerronde van t Loo and SKIL Ronde van Middeen-Brabant.
