A rider from Puglia, Francesco Dell'Olio, with his ninth seasonal success, won the race as one of the favorites in a prestigious competition with an excellent starting field. The 77th Coppa Dino Diddi, dedicated this year to Loretto Petrucci, the first winner of the race in 1948, did not betray its history and traditions, offering spectacular entertainment to the numerous spectators and presenting a magnificent winner, Francesco Dell'Olio from the Lazio team Il Pirata Cosmetall Vangi, who at the finish line of Viale Roma, crowded with sports enthusiasts, outpaced his seven breakaway companions.
A victory strongly desired by Dell'Olio for the joy of the Tuscan team sponsor Fabrizio Vangi. The winner himself initiated the breakaway after 34 km at the first passage on the Seano climb, won the next two mountain grand prizes, and then tried to break away, staying alone at the front for about ten kilometers. The others never gave up, and the breakaway rider eventually rejoined the group, ultimately beating them decisively in the sprint. An absolute protagonist winner, with praise also for those who reached the finish line to contest the victory, starting with Ferraro and Minardi who occupied the two podium spots.
The winner received congratulations from Francesco Moser, the honorary guest of a always beautiful race with 170 participants from 33 teams, including 4 foreign teams, and the presence of the Italian Champion, the Marche region's Tommaso Cingolani, who was below expectations, as was the multi-victory Tuscan team Iperfinish. To find the first Tuscan rider, we must look to the thirteenth place, obtained by Marco Spanio from Prato. At the awards ceremony, Luca Benesperi, the mayor of Agliana, was present and thanked by the G.S. Dino Diddi and the organization's general director Franco Vettori for the full collaboration guaranteed. A "Diddi" race conducted on the new route at over 42 km/h average.
