GP Larciano Novelty: The Safety Finish Line
An absolute novelty for the 2025 edition will be the "Safety Finish Line", an initiative launched by the Professional Cycling League as part of the Regions of Italy Cup. This challenge, which crosses 11 regions and over 600 Italian municipalities, will host a special intermediate finish line dedicated to raising awareness about athlete protection and road safety.
The "Safety Finish Line" will also be an opportunity to remember cyclists who lost their lives during training or racing, from champions like Michele Scarponi and Davide Rebellin to young promises such as Giovanni Iannelli, Sara Piffer, Silvia Piccini, Samuele Privitera, and Tommaso Cavorso, and all road victims who linked their lives to cycling passion. After debuting in Larciano, the initiative will be reproposed in the other 7 prestigious Regions of Italy Cup events.
From 2026, the project will further expand with educational, training, and dissemination activities targeting local communities and especially new generations, in collaboration with administrations and law enforcement, to spread a message of safety and responsibility on the roads.
"Through this symbolic gesture, and by creating thematic villages in the start and finish areas of races," declared Professional Cycling League President Roberto Pella, "we intend to convey a strong message of responsibility and commitment, so that sport and cycling continue to be symbols of values such as safety."
"This initiative," continues Minister Andrea Abodi, "aims to provide a tangible and visible sign of a commitment that must be systematically renewed on the topic of sports safety. The flying finish line of a race dedicated to 'Safety' wants to symbolically testify the willingness of all parties involved in these events, from the Cycling League to the national Government, to take responsibility for contributing to safe cycling."
