On Saturday at the age of 90, which he had celebrated on March 18th, Bruno Mussolini, a former cyclist from Forlì in the late 1950s, passed away. He leaves behind his wife Maria Giovanna and sons Andrea, Alessandro, and Giovanni. Born in Fiumana, he was a puncheur who turned professional in 1958, without achieving victories, but was a well-known local figure.
"Bruno was already excellent at his debut among the juniors in 1952 – as read in his biography at the Cycling Museum. He raced for Apem Predappio and in three years won seven races including the Small Tour of Romagna. He joined Sanmartinese in 1955 and, well guided by Landi and Mancini, authentic talent scouts of the category, established himself in several national races including the Matteotti Trophy, confirming himself as a good-level amateur. The lack of quick acceleration prevented him from achieving many successes despite consistently finishing in top positions, but he proved to be a strong and powerful rider capable of surprising fierce competitors with powerful attacks. In 1957, he declined a call-up to the national team to not leave his job and contribute to his family's maintenance. In 1958 he turned professional at the behest of Fiorenzo Magni, and at Chlorodont he put himself at the service of Nencini, Baffi, and Carlesi. He provided the best collaboration to the team leaders, but at the end of the season, given the required sacrifices and low compensation received, he ceased his sporting activity to dedicate himself to work."
Among the condolence messages received by the family was also that of former parliamentarian Alessandra Mussolini.
