Three special memories for a national junior race, scheduled for Sunday, August 3rd from Val di Magra to Alta Lunigiana. From Liguria to Tuscany, remembering Antonio Colò, an unforgettable sports director, with the twenty-first edition of the Memorial named after him, the Ligurian cycling champion from Bracelli, Aurelio Del Rio, a professional from 1954 to '57, and finally Samuele Privitera, the young Ligurian athlete who tragically died following an accident during the recent Tour of Valle d'Aosta and who won this race in a sprint with three breakaway companions in 2023 wearing the Team F.lli Giorgi jersey, while last year's victory was achieved by the Umbrian Mattia Gagliardoni Proietti.
The event organized by Pedale Spezzino, which also saw Slovenian Tadej Pogacar participate as a junior, finishing third in the 2016 edition won by Matteo Sensi from Prato, and all initiatives were presented by Paolo and Alessandro Colò yesterday evening at the Beverino Municipality, with the presence of Mayor Marco Cosini, Tresana Vice-Mayor Alessandro Vannini (the race will conclude in that area at the Barbarasco finish line), Simone Mannelli representing the Cycling Federation and Marco Casini from the Ligurian Regional Committee.
Also present were CONI delegate Alberto Teodini, Alessio Baudone, who is part of the Race Directors and Safety Commission of the Italian Cycling Federation, Lucio Petacchi, director of the Lunigiana Tour, and Mario Del Rio, son of the former cycling champion. They also discussed sports as a tool for territorial promotion, considering the Bike Festival that will take place in the Beverino area on September 21st for its fourth edition. Returning to the national junior race, it will start from Albiano Magra with two passages at the beginning in front of the monument commemorating Aurelio Del Rio and will conclude in Barbarasco after 111 kilometers and 300 meters. A demanding and challenging route, more difficult than last year's, for a race that promises to be spectacular and attractive, with main sponsors Se.Pr.In. company by Paolò Colò and D.R.F.I., along with other companies and the support of various municipal administrations.
