With the Giro d’Italia and the major goals of the early 2025 season underway (7 members of the squad are currently racing in China, where a sprint victory has already been secured) Team Polti VisitMalta is preparing for the upcoming challenges at altitude, in Bormio (Italy). In addition, five riders from the junior team are joining the ProTeam squad for a future-proof experience.
From today until July 15, the Polti VisitMalta riders will hold a training camp in Bormio, in the Italian Alps, specifically in the Valtellina region. This area has become a regular location for the team as they prepare for the second part of the season, with major goals in mind.
After a Giro d’Italia in which the team was a key player and completed strong performances in races such as Slovenia and Route d’Occitanie, the cyclists face the challenge of adding further successes on the busy summer and autumn calendar.
Most riders of ProTeam will take part in this training camp, which encompasses much more than just the sporting aspect. A stay in this privileged setting offers a perfect combination of cycling, history, and breathtaking landscapes.
Along with them, five riders from the junior team will experience a training camp with the professionals, also looking to hone their fitness for the stage races, with Ribera del Duero and Cantabria in their sights. Aitor Martínez, winner of the Vuelta a los Valles Cántabros; Iván Estévez; Jaume Barceló, Copa de España current leader; Gonçalo Rodrigues; and local Italian cyclist Matteo Compagnoni will be in Bormio.
The coaches and sports directors have designed a series of training sessions for the riders participating in the training camp. With some competitions at the end of July, August, and the Italian classics in September and October, these days will be crucial for preparing for these goals.
Fran Contador, General Manager of Team Polti VisitMalta: “Bormio is the home of Kometa and the Pedranzini family. A place we hold dear, where cycling training camps are set in a spectacular place. Furthermore, the fact that our junior riders can share this training camp with the professionals is fundamental to their development and learning. This has always been our philosophy and gives meaning to our work with the lower categories. It’s our line of work and our commitment to promoting this junior team, with a medium-term project that will bear fruit.”
