Rovescala is a village nestled in the hills of Oltrepò Pavese that annually hosts one of the most coveted classics for Elite and Under 23 riders. It's the Gran Premio Colli Rovescalesi – Enertrade Trophy, scheduled this year on Sunday, August 24th. Enertrade is the brand of the company owned by patron Alberto Bernini, headquartered in Delemont, in the French-speaking part of Switzerland.
The event for Elite and Under 23 riders is organized by ASD Rovescalese 1933, led by president Remo Torregiani, with Mario Baldenchini as vice president. The 72nd Gran Premio Colli Rovescalesi – 16th Enertrade Trophy will feature significant changes, particularly to the route. Until the 2024 edition, competitors faced an initial wide-circuit phase followed by shorter final laps.
"The short circuit roads are currently in poor condition," explains Stefano Saroni, the event's manager, "so we've redesigned the route. Athletes will repeat a highly selective 27.400-kilometer circuit five times."
After the start from Rovescala's wide straight, at 253 meters elevation, the road will climb to 327 meters at Torrone di Santa Maria delle Versa. After descending to Montescano and Montù Beccaria "low" at 117 meters, competitors will climb to 241 meters at Montù "high" before tackling the downhill sections of Bosnasco, San Damiano al Colle (96 meters) to the lower part of Rovescala, before the final climb towards the finish. In total, the riders will cover 137 kilometers.
"A shorter distance compared to previous editions," Saroni emphasizes, "but with an elevation of 2070 meters and fewer recovery phases. The ten total climbs, 5 at Montù and equally at Rovescala and Torrone, justify the shorter length compared to recent years. We will witness a more selective and spectacular race."
The Gran Premio Colli Rovescalesi – Enertrade Trophy will feature teams of 5 riders. "We'll have teams from Switzerland and riders from other nations," Saroni assures. All the best riders will compete with a certainly high number of participants. The start time is also a novelty: the starter will drop the flag at 1:30 PM. The Rovescala classic has an important roll of honor, with almost all winners advancing to professional cycling. In the last three editions, Nicolò Buratti won in 2022 and is currently a professional with Bahrain-Victorious World Tour team. He distinguished himself in the finale of the recent Italian Road Championship in Gorizia. In 2023, Davide De Pretto won, now riding for Jayco-AlUla, also a World Tour team. The 2024 winner, Domenico Cirlincione from Busca, remained with the UCI Continental team General Store-Essegidi-Curia. The Elite and Under race is the flagship event of Rovescala's activities, and Mayor Nicola Dallafiore with "vice" Alessandra Palestri collaborate with Torregiani, Saroni, Bernini, and the entire ASD Rovescalese 1933.
