Giuseppe Soldi passed away today at the hospital in Cremona. He was born on September 11, 1940, in Stagno Lombardo, a municipality in the Cremona province. He was an excellent rider in the youth categories, during which he suffered a serious accident that seemed to preclude the continuation of his activity, forcing him to a long stop. He managed to bounce back with courage and consistency. He was a skilled road cyclist, so much so that he won the world gold in the 100 kilometers team event in 1965 in Donostia-Lasarte, Spain, together with Pietro Guerra, Luciano Dalla Bona, and Mino Denti, all sharing a Lombard-Veneto origin.
After the world gold, in 1966, he joined Bianchi by signing a professional contract with Romeo Venturelli as captain, but another serious injury forced him to abandon his professional career after very few races.
He always cultivated his passion for two wheels, so much so that after about ten years, he began to compete with amateur cyclists, conquering numerous successes.
